Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was not baffled by Louisiana-Monroe’s defense during a season-opening 52-10 victory on Saturday. What puzzled the redshirt freshman was that his car was towed by University of Texas campus police during the game.
“How’d I get towed during the game?” Ewers tweeted after the Longhorns’ dominating victory, punctuating his tweet with a “rolling on the floor laughing” emoji.
Ewers was certainly busy on the field, completing 16 of 24 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns, Sports Illustrated reported. But while he stayed away from penalties on the field, it looks as if the quarterback may be forced to pay a fine to retrieve his vehicle.
Ewers is not the first Texas football player to run afoul of the university’s campus parking enforcement division, The Dallas Morning News reported.
Wide receiver Agiye Hall’s arrest last month for criminal mischief involved attempting to remove a parking boot from his vehicle, according to the newspaper.
Transfer linebacker Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey empathized with his teammate, complete with laughing/crying emojis.
“They terrible,” Tucker-Dorsey tweeted, according to the Morning News.
Ewers transferred to Texas from Ohio State, ESPN reported. His first college start came after he won the Longhorns’ starting job from Hudson Card, who opened the 2021 season as Texas’ starter.
“I didn’t have any butterflies going into today. A little bit on the first play, but not even as much as I did in high school,” Ewers told reporters after the game. “I liked it. I enjoyed the game.”
The postgame was another matter.
