Lady Gaga’s dog walker, Ryan Fischer, thanks supporters after being shot during dognapping

LOS ANGELES — The dog walker who was shot last week by one of two robbers who made off with two of Lady Gaga’s French bulldogs expressed gratitude Monday for the “healing support” being sent his way after he had “a very close call with death.”

On Wednesday night, Ryan Fischer was walking Koji, Gustavo and Asia in Los Angeles when two men got out of a white Nissan Altima and held him at gunpoint, demanding that he hand over the dogs, authorities said. Fischer refused and was shot by one of the men before the pair grabbed Koji and Gustavo and fled, according to police.

The dogs have since been found unharmed, investigators said. Officials continue to search for the men responsible for the attack.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Fischer said he focused on Asia in the moments after the shooting, calling her his “guardian angel.”

“My panicked screams calmed as I looked at her, even though it registered that the blood pooling around her tiny body was my own,” Fischer wrote. “I cradled Asia as best as I could, thanked her for all the incredible adventures we’d been on together, apologized that I couldn’t defend her brothers, and then resolved that I would still try to save them… and myself.”

Fischer said that since the shooting his life “has taken a very sudden and unexpected turn.”

“I am still in recovery,” Fischer said. “I will write and say more later, but the gratitude for all the love I feel from around this planet is immense and intense. I felt your healing support! Thank you.”

Fischer also thanked first responders, his family, his friends, Gaga and his other clients.

“I am so appreciative of everything you continue to do,” he wrote. “A lot of healing still needs to happen, but I look forward to the future and the moment when I get bombarded with kisses and licks (and maybe even an excitement pee?) from Asia, Koji, and Gustav.”

Last week, police said Fischer was in stable condition with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. His family said in a statement obtained by Rolling Stone that his doctors expect Fischer “to make a full recovery.”

Capt. Jonathan Tippet, head of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division, on Monday told the Los Angeles Times that authorities are focused on identifying “the individuals that would commit such a horrific crime and have such a complete disregard for human life.”

Previously, he told the newspaper that investigators were looking into whether the robbers knew the dogs belonged to Gaga. French bulldogs are commonly targeted by thieves because they’re among the most popular and expensive dog breeds in America, according to CNN.
