Authorities identify 3 killed after shooting in Los Angeles neighborhood

LOS ANGELES — Three people were killed and four others were wounded after a shooting early Saturday in an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood, authorities said.

According to police, the shooting occurred outside a residence in the Beverly Crest section of the city, KABC-TV reported.

Update 9:06 p.m. EST Jan. 29: According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Officer, the victims killed were identified as Nenah Davis, 29, of Bolingbrook, Illinois; Destiny Sims, 26, of Buckeye, Arizona; and Iyana Hutton, 33, of Chicago, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Update 1:40 p.m. EST Jan. 28: Sgt. Bruce Borihanh of the Los Angeles Police Department said it was unclear what happened at the scene.

“We called it a gathering, until we can interview some of the people that were here to determine exactly what kind of gathering it was,” Borihanhold reporters, according to the Los Angeles Times.

According to LAPD Capt. Jonathan Tippet, two people were taken to an area hospital. The other two victims drove themselves to a hospital and were listed in stable condition, according to KABC-TV.

Update 12:05 p.m. EST Jan. 28: During a news conference, Sgt. Bruce Borihanh of the Los Angeles Police Department said the shooting occurred in front of a home that authorities believe was a short-term rental property, KABC-TV reported. He did not confirm whether there was a gathering at home at the time of the shooting.

Police originally said that two men and a woman were killed, but during the news conference deferred official confirmation to the coroner’s office, according to the television station. The victims have not been identified.

The shooting comes a week after a gunman opened fire in the Los Angeles suburb of Monterey Park, killing 11 people. A 72-year-old gunman opened fire at a dance studio east of Los Angeles after a Lunar New Year celebration. He later killed himself after being surrounded by authorities in a parking lot in Torrance, 30 miles from the shooting.

Three days later, a gunman killed seven people at two farms around Half Moon Bay south of San Francisco, the Los Angeles Times reported.

This is the fourth mass shooting in California this month, according to The Associated Press.

Sgt. Frank Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department told the news organization that the four injured people were standing outside a residence. The three people killed were inside a vehicle, he said.

It is unclear what led to the shooting. Police did not provide further details.
