RAYS MAKING HISTORY: Tampa Bay’s MLB Franchise ties modern day record, 13-0 to start season

The Tampa Bay Rays have yet to lose a single game this season, winning 13 consecutive contests to start the year. This ties a modern day record which only has occurred twice post 1900s.

Tampa Bay, FL — Winning 13 straight games in Major League Baseball is hard enough.

The game has the highest failure rate of any major sport. Especially when you factor a 30% success rate is considered MVP caliber. Imagine getting an A on a test in school, with only 30% correct.

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Boston Red Sox 9-3 Thursday for a 13-0 start to their season.

What the Rays have accomplished has only been seen twice in the modern age. The only other teams to do it, the 1982 Atlanta Braves and 1987 Milwaukee Brewers. You have to go back to the 1884 St. Louis Maroons to find a better start, when they went 20-0 to begin a season.

And the Rays haven’t been barely getting by in these games. Tampa is outscoring their opponents 101-30 with the most runs scored, and the fewest allowed in the big leagues. The Rays have won all but two of their games by four or more runs.

Tampa Bay looks to continue making history tonight as they head on the road to Canada, and play their division rival Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre.

If they get to 14-0, they will break the modern day record for consecutive wins to start a season. As for the 1884 St. Louis Maroons, they have some breathing room. . . for now.
