October - Breast Cancer

Walter C. Hayne, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon and a former hospital Chief of Surgery who is part of AdventHealth Medical Group’s breast surgery specialty practice. He has a wealth of experience providing expert surgical care for breast cancer patients, and advanced skills in minimally invasive laparoscopy and robotic surgery procedures. A summa cum laude graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia, he continued at Temple as an award-winning medical student and thereafter undertook his general surgery residency at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City. He has been a practicing surgeon for more than 20 years, during which time he has been honored with awards for his bedside manner and clinical excellence.

September - Gynecologic Cancer

Gynecologic cancers are some of the deadliest forms of cancer for women. According to the American Cancer Society, there were an estimated 110,070 new cases of gynecologic cancers diagnosed in the U.S. in 2018. We’re here today with Dr. Nathalie McKenzie, a Gynecologic Cancer expert with AdventHealth Cancer Institute, to discuss education/prevention, screenings, and innovative treatment options available for patients.

Nathalie McKenzie Nathalie Dauphin McKenzie, MD, MSPH, is an award-winning, board-certified gynecologic oncologist with a breadth of experience providing advanced treatments including minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures for women with GYN cancers. She is especially known for her expertise in radical debulking procedures to remove advanced tumors, complex robotic surgery, and a passion for clinical research. A cancer survivor herself, she is a compassionate, driven physician and thought leader in the oncologic community. A multilingual physician with fluency in four languages, Dr. McKenzie is the Program Director of AdventHealth's Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship and serves on the faculties of the FSU and UCF Colleges of Medicine, Orlando, FL. Her areas of interest include clinical outcomes and translational research surrounding new drug and device development, HPV neoplasia, and cancer survivorship. She frequently publishes and presents her work at national and international meetings.

July - Brain Cancer

Brain cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer, and we have Dr. Herbert Newton, a Neuro-Oncologist from AdventHealth Cancer Institute, with us to discuss education, treatments available, and research / innovations in the field.

Herbert Newton Herbert Newton, MD, FAAN, is a board-certified neuro-oncologist and neurologist with more than 30 years of experience. Dr. Newton earned his medical degree as well as a Master of Science at SUNY-Buffalo Medical School. He also received advanced training in neuro-oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Over the course of his career, Dr. Newton’s work has appeared in more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, including medical textbooks, and he received recognition from Newsweek as one of America’s Top Doctors for Cancer from 2005 – 2015. Dr. Newton specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of brain and spinal cord tumors in both adults and adolescent patients, and in complex treatment plans including the use of chemotherapy and molecular therapeutics.

June - Men's Health Month

June is Men’s Health Month, and we have Dr. Mitchell Machado, a Medical Oncologist from AdventHealth Cancer Institute, with us to discuss prevention, education, and screenings necessary for optimal health and wellness

Mitchell Machado Mitchell Machado, MD, is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist who has a special interest in targeted therapies and he is an advocate for early symptom management and palliative care for cancer patients. He joined AdventHealth Medical Group from Richmond, VA, where he was a practicing hematologist/oncologist and managing partner of the Virginia Cancer Institute. In addition, he has held several hospital leadership positions in the recent past, including Director of Infusion Services and Chairman of Medical Ethics. Dr. Machado earned his medical degree with honors at Saba University School of Medicine in the Dutch Caribbean and undertook his residency training at the University of Florida’s Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he was named Chief Resident. He obtained his sub-specialty training at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where he completed his oncology/hematology fellowship and was named Chief Fellow.

May - Women's Health Month

May is Women’s Health Month, and we have Dr. Sarah George, a Medical Oncologist from AdventHealth Cancer Institute, with us to discuss prevention, education, and screenings necessary for optimal health and wellness.

Pineapple Sarah George, MD, FACP, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained medical oncologist and hematologist. She and her team specialize in providing compassionate, comprehensive care for patients with cancer. With the aid of molecular diagnostic studies, she is able to tailor treatment to the individual patient, administering chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy on-site using her considerable expertise in diagnosing and treating malignancy. She uses strategies to manage pain and symptoms resulting from cancer and treatments. She and her staff are nationally recognized for delivering the highest quality of cancer care, having received the prestigious QOPI (Quality Oncology Practice Initiative) Certification. She has served as Medical Director on the oncology floor and has been voted “Best Doctor” and “Top Physician” for multiple years in Orlando magazines by her peers.
