Police have charged a man they say tried to carjack baseball great Cal Ripken Jr's mother in a bank parking lot in Maryland. Police say Jesse Bowen had a handgun when he approached 75-year-old Vi Ripken near NBRS Bank in Aberdeen, a town about 25 miles north of Baltimore, but she activated a key alarm and he left. Ripken was taken from her home at gunpoint last year and returned unharmed. Police say the two crimes don't appear to be related.
